Floor Surfaces has the Solution to
Tire Stains on Flexible PVC Floor Tiles
"Use Polagard AG"

The Problem:

Some automobile tires will stain paints, coatings and floor tiles made from petroleum based products including: PVC, Polyurethane, Epoxy, Acrylic, and others.

The stain is caused by a material called 6PPD (phenaline diamine) which is added to certain rubber products to resist environmental attack by Ozone and Ultraviolet light. Since it adds to the cost of making tires, manufacturers usually only add it to high performance tires.

Polagard AG:

Polagard AG is an easily applied (2) part Polyurethane Anti Graffiti coating that also resists staining Resilia Interlocking floor tiles caused by 6PPD (phenaline diamine).

Floor Surfaces is a reseller of Polagard AG. It is not available as a retail products and we do not know of any other coating that resists the staining caused by 6PPD.

Solutions for 'Garages' using uncoated PVC Tiles:

Since Floor Surfaces cannot determine which tires cause staining, we do not guarantee Resilia tiles against stains caused by tires unless the tiles are coated with Polagard AG. However the following are solutions used by many of our customers.

  • Use only Black or very dark tiles.
  • Cover the area under vehicles with Black tiles.
  • Place strips of Black tiles where the tires will rest.
  • Add Black under the engine where oil may drip.

Notes:

  1. The odds tires having 6PPD that will stain tiles seem to be about 1 in 20.
  2. 6PPD in tires will stain all tiles made from Flexible PVC in all colors
    made by all manufacturers.
  3. Staining is not visible in Black, and is less visible in very dark colors,
  4. Staining is very visible in all light colors.
